Most of the items in your bathroom will need to be properly installed, and if you think you can do it like a pro, then here a few simple ‘install a bathroom’ guides:

How to install a bathroom sink – wall mounted

  1. Position the sink’s metal mounting plate against the wall and mark it by drilling into the wall through the holes. Place fasteners or pilot holes into the markings if required, and for tile use a masonry bit.
  2. Install a bathroom faucet, drain, and pop-up assemblies.
  3. Secure the sink to the mounting plate – fasteners may be required to level it.
  4. Connect the drain’s arm and the P-trap to the sub-out of the drain.
  5. Connect the water supply valves to the shut-off valves.
  6. Hide the plumbing by installing a bathroom trim piece.

How to install a bathroom faucet

  1. Locate the best position for installing a bathroom fan. Ideally this would be directly over the shower in a place where it could be attached to a ceiling joist, and easily accessible power such as a switch circuit.
  2. Use a rotary cutting tool or drywall saw to cut out a hole in the ceiling. Note – it should be larger than the finished opening of the fan.
  3. Find an exhaust duct and cable clamp electrical knockouts.
  4. Attach the fan to the ceiling joist, connect the wiring and exhaust duct.
  5. Test the fan works, then clean up the installation.

How to install a bathroom floor

  1. Install a cementitious backer-board using steel screws and sealing all seams with fiberglass tape.
  2. Draw out parallel lines aligned with 2 perpendicular walls, and spread out mortar over the floor.
  3. Place the first tile at the intersection and add to each of its sides until the nearest wall is reached. Continue by rows.
  4. Grout the tile joints 24 hours later.
