Diy bathroom steps to toilet replacement:
- Turn off water at main shut off.
- Use a jug saw to cut excess piping from the wall or floor to the required length (the toilet piping should lie under the lower left side of the bowl).
- Place the flange over the piping and attach the valve.
- Slide the washer and nut onto the piping.
- Wrap the threads using Teflon tape, and then tighten the nut using a wrench.
- The least pleasant aspect of this diy bathroom project requires you to clean out the drain plug and slide retaining bolts into place.
- Fit the wax seal around the bottom of the toilet sink and ensure that the seal over the drain pipe is tight. Here you can use silicon caulk.
- Install the bowl over the seal by pushing down the plastic retainers over the flange to ensure that the toilet bolts do not hang over.
- Hand tighten the retaining nuts holding the toilet bolts in place, then use a wrench to secure the toilet bowl to the floor.
- Attach the flexible supply tube to the toilet tank.
- Use two bolts to connect a rubber washer to the tank.
- Use two small fasteners to attach the toilet seat, which can be attached using double-sided tape.
- Turn the water supply back on and check that there is proper flow of water.
If you find that there is some leaking in one or more areas, then you have not installed the seat tightly enough. At this point we recommend that you call one of our bathroom professionals to check and touch up your bathroom diy.

Before starting your bathroom diy toilet project, plug the drain with paper to prevent debris from falling in whilst working – it could save you a lot of additional work!
